George Carpenter McGahee, Jr. 82, entered into eternal peaceful rest Saturday July 27, 2024. Born to the late George “Carpenter” McGahee, Sr. and Louise Sheppard McGahee, he was one of four children and the last surviving. Preceded by his brothers Maurice McGahee, Johnny McGahee and Roy McGahee. Affectionately known as G.C or Daddy, he graduated in 1960 from Wrens High School where he played football wearing the #60. After high school he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was employed with Continental Can, Federal Paper and lastly International Paper. Spending most of his adult life in Augusta. G.C. was a provider for his family and was always the first to lend a hand to help a neighbor or do anything he could for them. He was previously married to the former Carolyn Templeton of Matthews, GA, whom they had four children. Gi Ga McGahee his daughter proceeds him in death. Surviving Robin McGahee Martin (Jay), George C. McGahee, lll (Misty) and Wendy McGahee Andrews (Thomas) Later he married Darlene M. McGahee, who survives him. Also surviving him twelve grandchildren Preston Ryan Greene, Coley Alexander Greene, Linsey Blackwell Davis, Megan Blackwell Brock, Thomas Burdell Andrews, Jr., Savannah Andrews, Candance Andrews, Palyn Andrews, Caylee Underwood, Audrey Shaw, Hunter Toomey and Caree Elizabeth McGahee; twenty-four great-grandchildren; step- son Rick Kirby (Rachel); step-grandson Jonathan Kirby; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of family members and dear friends. A Celebration of his life will be held 2 PM Friday August 2, 2024 at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services ,3507 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30909 with Scott McGahee leading the reflections of his life and words of encouragement. Military honors will be accorded by the Ceremonial Detachment of the U.S. Air Force The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. A brief committal service will conclude 5PM Friday at Waldens United Methodist Church, 1760 Walden Church Road, Avera GA.
