Gene Henderson Yates, 89 went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 15, 2016. He was born the ninth child of thirteen in McDowell, County, West Virginia to Benjamin Harrison and Maggie Ayers Yates on May 28, 1927. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ravanna White Yates in 2004, his eldest son, Kenneth Yates in 2006 and his 12 siblings. He loved Jesus and thanked God for his Blessing of a long life spent with his family and friends… Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday December 20, 2016 at 11:00 am at Bellevue Memorial Gardens Chapel with Pastor Ray Reynolds and burial to follow at Bellevue with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to time of service at Bellevue. Mr. Yates made Augusta his home for the past 38 years, after moving from Sioux City Iowa. Mr. Yates worked as a coal miner at Red Jack - Lynco Mine and Itmann Mine in Wyoming County, West Virginia. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Philippines, as Fireman First Class, United States Navy. He retired as a machinist from Cook Machine Shop in Augusta, GA. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening and the outdoors. Survivors include the special lady in his life Lila, his sons, Dwaine Yates of Augusta, GA., Charles Yates and wife Tonya, Hephzibah, GA., Grandchildren, Shane Yates wife Denise, Sabrina Underwood husband Andy, Jennilynn Yates, Stacey Yates husband Jim, Chuck Yates and wife Lisa, Robert Yates and Cody Yates. Great grandchildren, Brayden Gene, Kenneth Gene, Josselynn, Tyler, Brianna, Devin and Ivey and soon to be born Destiny Yates, Sonny White brother-in-law, among many nephews, nieces and cherished family who loved him, the Lord’s, the Luce’s, the Leon Guerrero’s, Susan McCracken, Melton and Brenda Kent, Wendy and Fred Ford.
