Forrest Eugene Sanders

Mr. Forrest E. “Gene” Sanders of Hephzibah died on Sunday, July 5, 2009 at University Hospital.He was 73 years old. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road.The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Solomon’s Porch House of Worship, 2314 Old Savannah Road, Augusta.Pastor Steven Black and Rev. Leah Stevens will officiate. Mr. Sanders will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service. Pallbearers will be Mike Stevens, Ernest “Man” Johnson, Chris Parrish, Ray “Fatz” Johnson, Tim Coleman, and Gerald Wall.Committal services will follow at the Fulcher Family Cemetery. Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife, Genevieve W. “Genny” Sanders; his son, Michael A. Sanders of Augusta; his daughter, Mary M. Harris of Augusta; his brother, James Sanders of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Rebecca “Becky” Sanders, Michael A. “Spanky” Sanders Jr., Benjamin F. Harris, and four great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby G. Sanders, his parents, Forrest A. Sanders and Maggie Weeks Sanders, and his sister, Mattie Johnson. Mr. Sanders was born in Girard, Georgia.He was a member of Solomon’s Porch House of Worship.Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Suburban Propane.He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
