Emily D. Purvis

Emily Purvis, age 84, of Augusta, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014, at The Place in Martinez. She was born April 19, 1930 in Okeechobee, FL, to the late Henry E. and Alverta Johnson Hunter.She retired from Gracewood State Hospital as a nurse’s aide.She was a long time member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, James S. Purvis, Jr. and one son, James S. Purvis, III. She is survived by her children; Emily June Purvis of Augusta, Marvin Edward Purvis of Augusta, Viola L. (Mike) O’Grady of Augusta and Katherine E. (Tommy) O’Grady of Augusta;10 grandchildren, Chasity A. Jackson, Christopher S. Moulton, J. R. Purvis, Alexis Purvis, Tasha E. Moulton, Brittney M. Nunez, Joshua T. O’Grady, Benjamin J. Hixons, Michaela L. O’Grady and Michael P. O’Grady;4 great grandchildren.Also survived by 5 brothers and one sister.She was preceded in death by one brother. Family will receive friends Monday 2 pm to 3 pm at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 5060 HWY 56, McBean, with services to follow at 3 pm at the church with Rev. Mark Joyner, officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.
