Elmer Harry “Pete” Young III, 80, loving husband of Carol Young, passed away peacefully at home on January 26th, 2024. Pete was born on January 15, 1944, in Dayton, Ohio to Elmer Harry Young II and Anna Jewel Cowan. He attended UGA and obtained his law degree from John Marshall School of Law in 1975. He practiced law in Savannah, Augusta and surrounding counties. Pete proudly served in the Army as a field photographer during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for Bravery/Valor. He was a member of the Martinez Masonic Lodge #710 F. & A.M. and a published author. His latest novel, Call Me Water, was published in 2023 and is available on Amazon. Pete was a lifelong learner and man of many talents and hobbies. He loved spending time on the water, riding on his John Deere tractor, playing guitar and making incredible cheesecakes and his special “SlumGully.” Pete is predeceased by his parents, a son, Army SPC John Young and his stepfather, Burl Claborn as well as his beloved fur babies, Samson and Delilah. In addition to his wife, Carol, Pete is survived by his sister, Dorothy Lee Doll (Henry), brother Buddy Claborn (Lindy), children Theresa Young, Marshall Young (Aja), Chris Young (Deb), Angie Byrd (David) & Mike McCorkle, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A celebration of Pete’s life will be held in the spring.
