Elizabeth Gwendolyn Carter Hyde

Elizabeth Gwendolyn Carter Hyde entered into rest on December 15, 2023, at 3021 Gray Fox Drive in Hephzibah, Georgia. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio on January 25, 1951, to the late Louise Elizabeth Scott Carter and the late Alonzo Williams Carter. She was a member of Third Baptist Church in Youngstown, Ohio. Elizabeth graduated from South High School in 1969. She participated in the Booster Club, the Banquet Committee, and the band where she played the oboe. She attended college in Washington, DC. Elizabeth resided and worked various jobs in Washington DC, and Baltimore Maryland. Elizabeth joined the United States Army ranking Specialist (SP5). She was stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia. She took journalism courses and became a journalist for two years and three months. While in the military, Elizabeth earned the Sharpshooter Rifle Badge, Good Conduct Medal (1st Award), Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon. On March 17, 1978, Elizabeth married Sergeant Major Clyde Edwin Hyde, Jr. in Kaiserslautern, Germany. She received an honorable discharged from the U.S. Army in 1979. After the military, she retired from Fort Gordon (Eisenhower), Georgia USA Signal Center on February 1, 2005. She served as: US National Telecommunications Specialist Directorate of Combat Development Concepts and Architecture Division Concepts Branch; and US Training Doctrine Command TRADOC Elizabeth was a teetotaler; tea was her choice of beverage. She spoke fluent German and dabbled in Spanish. She flourished with gardening and landscaping at both of her homes. She was an avid African Art collector, and her homes exemplified her passion. Elizabeth enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, and on Route 66 in the USA per motor homes. Her hobbies were crocheting, and quilts of endearment for family and friends. Her quilts were made with expertise, lots of love, and were usually themed. She was a member of the Quilts of Honor that presented quilts to honorary Veterans, and the Garden City Quilters (Augusta, Georgia). She was also a member of the VFW, where she was responsible to advocate Veteran’s activities in Georgia and out of state programs. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her grandparents, Enoch and Ruby Whipple; aunt, Ida Butcher; and uncle, Carl Ace Carter. Elizabeth leaves to cherish her loving memory her stepdaughter, Maureen Yezabel Caseres Hyde of Panama City, Panama; sister, Patricia A. (Richard) Hill, whom she resided with for the past twenty-three months; brother, Ivan Carter of York, Pennsylvania; uncles, Enoch Ramon Whipple of Youngstown, Ohio, and Ronald Lee Whipple of Washington, DC; aunt, Dianna Lynn Gamble (Jesse) of Columbus, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Richard Vincent Hill II of Youngstown, Ohio, and Phylanice Alethea (Turner) Nashe of Brentwood, Tennessee; great-nieces and nephews, Richard Vincent Hill III of Youngstown, Ohio, Payton Nashe, Brandon Carter Nashe, and Shelby Nashe of Brentwood, Tennessee; cousin, Edgar Day of Youngstown, Ohio; special friends, Linda Fitzgerald of Hephzibah, Georgia, Mary Harvey of Youngstown, Ohio, Myrna Madison of Atlanta, Georgia, and Ereka Fielding of Grovetown, Georgia; and a host of cousins, and friends.
