Biography Mrs. Elena M. Blackaby Social Worker Dearing, Ga. entered into rest July 3, 2013 at University Hospital. Elena Minear Blackaby was born to Jerry and Helen Minear on March 11, 1942. Elena was an advocate for those with disabilities and worked for Durham County Community Living Programs of Durham for many years. In recent years she enjoyed traveling with her husband Herb and serving as Park hosts through the Southeast. In recent years she enjoyed traveling with her husband Herb, and serving as park host at McDuffie Fish Hatchery, Bobby Brown and Hard Labor Creek State Parks and other parks in the Southeast. Elena is survived by her husband, Herbert Blackaby, Dearing, Ga., and sons, Benjamin (Carmen) Houston, TX, Stephen (Beverly) Raleigh, NC, and Jeremiah of Cary, NC. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Christopher (Ashley) Cary, NC. Galen (Audra) Mobile, AL., Logan of Murphy, NC. Nicholas of Greenville, NC and Andrew of Huntersville, NC. Elena was a compassionate, creative and fun spirit. Her adventurous spirit and love leave those who knew her with beautiful memories.
