Dorthy J. Kirkland

Augusta, GA. Dorthy J. Kirkland, age 60, of Augusta, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at her residence. She was born November 11, 1955 in Pfaffenhofen/ILM, Germany, to the late Bradley M. and Olga Goerlich Summers.She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald D. Summers. She was a 1973 graduate of Butler High School.She worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections with Augusta Judicial Circuit in the Augusta Probation Office as a Probation Aide from August 1973 until her retirement in March of 2005. She was currently employed by CSRA Probation Services, Inc., where she began in February 2013, as a Court Services Coordinator for Richmond County Superior Court. She is survived by her two siblings, Karl (Thinh) Summers of Evans and Charlotte (Edward A.) Betters of Augusta.Also survived by nieces and nephews, David (Meghen) Summers, Elizabeth (Joey) Harris, Denise Summers, Chris Justice, Allen Betters, Cheryl Henderson, Ronnie Bob Summers and Lauren Summers. Family will receive friends Monday 6 pm to 8 pm at THE POTEET FUNERAL HOME, 3465 Peach Orchard Rd., HWY 25, Augusta, 30906, 706.798.8886. Funeral services will be Tuesday 10 am at the funeral home with Rev. David Hagen, officiating.Burial to follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Chris Justice, C J Justice, Allen Betters, David Summers, Ronnie Summers, and Joey Harris.
