David Lamar Griswell of Washington County died on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center, after an extended illness.He was 55 years old.A memorial service was held on Friday, July 30 at Pleasant Plains Church of Harrison, Georgia with Pastor Fred Morrison Officiating. He is survived by his daughter, Tara (Craig) Robinson, of Tennille; his mother, Grace Wilson Griswell; his grandchildren, Gavin Daniel and Avery Robinson; his beloved sister, Carol (Gerald) Bloodworth, of McIntyre, Georgia; two brothers, Douglas (Rebecca) Griswell Jr., and Jimmy Griswell, of Wrightsville, Georgia; his special and faithful friend, Ms. Jackie Rock of Aiken, South Carolina; and by several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Griswell Jr., and by his grandparents, Harris Wilson and Willie Mae Brantley Wilson. David was born on August 14, 1954 in Washington County, Georgia. David was a graduate of Washington-Johnson Community High School in Harrison, Georgia,class of 1972.David was a proud veteran of the US Army where he served with the Airborne Division.He was posted in both Germany and Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.He was a welder by trade.David was an avid outdoorsman.He was devoted to the preservation of land and the environment, referring to it as “God’s Country.”It was important to him to care for the farm that his grandfather worked hard to own.He did this as a tribute to his grandfather who was a profound influence on his life.David was a unique man who loved God, his family, and the outdoors. David’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation and sincere gratitude to the staff of the CCU at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center.He received the most wonderful care and attention there.
