Mr. Cole B. Faircloth 1st Sgt. US Army Retired Mr. Cole B. Faircloth, loving husband of Carol A. Faircloth, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center.He was 79 years old. The family will receive friends today, Tuesday, August 24, 2010 from 6:00 until 9:00 pm at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel.Committal will follow at Langley Cemetery in Langley, South Carolina.Dr. Roy Head, Rev. John Kilpatrick, and Dr. Eleazer Benenhaley will officiate.US Army Military Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers and the men of Silvercrest Baptist Church Adult Sunday School Class No. 6 will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Faircloth is survived by his loving wife of more than 57 years, Carol A. Faircloth; his daughters, Liz A. Thompson of Martinez, and Sue F. Wall and her husband, Starr, of Augusta; a son, Ken Sivils of Springhill, Louisiana; his son-in-law, Wayne Thompson of Grovetown; grandchildren, Michael W. Thompson of Augusta, Jeramie C. (Valerie) Thompson of Grovetown, Kevin S. Wall, and Lena Marie Wall, both of Augusta; his step-mother, step-sister, and step-brother.He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jean Marie Greear, in 1983; his son, Charles Faircloth in 2001; his parents, Cole and Bessie Faircloth; his brother, John Paul Faircloth; his best friend, James E. Turman. Mr. Faircloth was an active member of Silvercrest Baptist Church.He had served as a deacon and was a member of the Adult Six Sunday School Class.He was a veteran of the United States Army.During his twenty-two years of service, he did tours in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.He was a communications specialist and retired as Sergeant First Class.Following his military retirement, he worked with the Augusta Richmond County Recreation Department as head of maintenance at the Bell Auditorium.He was a cofounding charter member of the Augusta chapter of the Stage Hands Union.Mr. Faircloth was an all around sportsman who especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.
