Chester Morris Gibson

Chester Morris Gibson, 68, went home to be with his Lord, October 20, 2015. Mr. Gibson was born in Varnville, S. C. on November 10, 1946.He was the son of the late William Simmie Gibson and Inez Thames Gibson. Chester served his county in the Vietnam War, returning to work in the pulpwood industry.Later in life, he became self-employed and retired as a master carpenter.He was a member of the Gracewood United Methodist Church.He loved fishing and wood working. He is survived by his wife, Claudia Jones Gibson of the home, his daughters, Stephanie (Donnie) Smith, Annette Gibson and Tammy Dayko; his granddaughter, Sydney Gibson; his brother, Richard (Margie) Gibson, Jimmie (Celie) Gibson, Linwood (Henrietta) Gibson, Dennis (Miriam) Gibson, Perry (Betsy) Gibson and his sister, Cathlene Gibson Pierce.He was preceded in death by one sister, Marlene Gibson. Family will receive friends Thursday (TODAY) 10 am to 11 am at THE POTEET FUNERAL HOME, 3465 Peach Orchard Rd., HWY 25, Augusta, 30906 with services to follow at the funeral home at 11 am. Burial will be in Sandy Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 15480 Pocotaligo Rd., Varnville, S.C. 29944, at 3 pm with Military Honors being rendered. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church’s food pantry.
