Charlotte Nadine Nance of Augusta, Georgia, beloved wife, and mother, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 surrounded by her loving daughter and son following a very brief illness. Charlotte, or Pete as she was known by her closest friends, was born in Meridian, Mississippi, and attended Central High School in Shelbyville, Tennessee where she met her husband of some 60 years, Leonard Dryden Nance, and went on to have 5 children. After a time in Auburn, Alabama, Charlotte moved with her husband to Miami and studied design at the University of Miami. She served in the Melrose Park Women’s Club and volunteered in concert with local charities to advance the placement of Cuban refugees throughout the Miami area. It was during this decade that Charlotte began her journey of devotion to helping her community. After settling in Augusta, Georgia with her family, Charlotte competed and won both Mrs. Augusta and Mrs. Georgia Homemaker titles in the 1968 competitions. Charlotte went on to win several awards and honors for Augusta Garden Club as well as Women’s Club work throughout the years. She was awarded the Clara Jordon Citizenship Award for her outstanding service to the community. Charlotte was the President of the Cranford Flower Club. During her years in the Cranford Flower Club, she helped organize the Hoe and Hope Junior Garden Club and maintained a position as an adult advisor for many years. She was an instructor at the local YMCA as well as an associate member of the Engineers Wives Club of the CSRA. She served as the President of the Junior Women’s Club and the Chairman of the Lila-HANDS Beautification Program. She began her career in interior design in the 1970s and worked in the field for over four decades. She retired in 2008 to spend more time with her children and grandchildren as well as to dedicate time to her beloved garden. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband Leonard. She is survived by her son Jack and daughters, Lisa, Jessica, Mara, and Victoria as well as her grandchildren: Laura, Charlotte, Denio, and Reinaldo. Services will be held at Good Shepard Episcopalian Church at 2230 Walton Way, Augusta, Georgia at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 17, 2023, and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Center which was dear to Charlotte’s heart.
