Cary Neal Duckett

December 2, 1936 — June 6, 2023

Cary Neal Duckett, age 86, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday June 6, 2023, in Augusta, GA. Mr. Duckett was born December 2, 1936, to the Rev. C. T. and Mady Lee Duckett in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by parents Mady Lee and Rev. C. T. Duckett, brother Charles W. Duckett, granddaughters Brittany Duckett and Megan Lee Gayle Dinkins and great-granddaughter Shay Nicole Dinkins. He is survived by daughters Stephanie Adams (Bill) and Gwen Carey (Bill), son Cary Neal Duckett II (Gina), and grandsons Cary Neal Duckett III, Luke William Adams, Brett Michael Murphey, James Neal Chandler Murphey, Trent Taylor Murphey, and Wyatt Henshaw McTeir. He has many great-grandchildren and many other loved ones including Dianne and Kelly Hill. Cary grew up in Nashville, TN before joining the ARMY and ended up in Augusta, GA. He was a Draftsman at Zell Engineers for nearly 30 years, and after retirement went on to work another 20 at the Walmart meat dept. as a meat processor. After retiring from Walmart, he lived with his daughter Stephanie and son-in-law Bill for several years. They enjoyed going to the movies and watching their favorite tv shows, often his son Neal would join them. He loved going to the beach, listening to music, and was an avid reader who often would read 2 or 3 books a week! He really enjoyed going to his grandson Luke’s soccer and baseball games. He would go to Hardees with his paper, drinking coffee and doing crosswords puzzles as he would see many of his friends come through. To know him was to love him and be loved by him. Cary was loved beyond measure by his 3 children, they all have so many special memories. He was the most kindhearted person and always thinking of what he could do for someone else before himself. He loved watching ALL sports but was an especially huge fan of the Atlanta Hawks and the Atlanta Braves. He spent many years watching the Braves eating boiled peanuts with his kids. He played volleyball for many years up into his 60’s as well as ping pong. Neal remembers several times when he and his dad would both be at the same recreation center playing and not even realize until later, they were both there! He was in a bowling league for several years. He also loved to go white water rafting. He loved him some index cards (this obsession was passed onto his daughter Gwen!) and always had some in his shirt pocket just in case needed to jot something down! He was a collector of many things, rocks, bones, shells, Altoid tins, let’s just say he LOVED his “things”! He also believed in the power of vitamins and took a handful every day twice a day, don’t think he ever had a cold and Stephanie remembers him one time asking her “what does a headache feel like?!” He was known for the Best Christmas Ham ever and his artistic and creative abilities and built some of the best backyard forts. Every summer he would have a big dump truck of dirt delivered to the backyard for us to climb and play in. He was truly a MacGyver when it came to his kid’s school projects and home repairs and was the best boo-boo fixer. He will be missed every day and will always be remembered for the permanent smile on his face.
