Mr. Bruce Self Mr. Bruce Self, of Hephzibah, died on Saturday, February 25, 2012.He was 69 years old.The family will receive friends today, Monday, February 27, 2012, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta.The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at Bath Presbyterian Church, 3805 Bath Edie Road, Blythe 30805.Committal services, with Masonic Graveside Rites and United States Air Force Honors, will follow in the church cemetery.Pallbearers are Mike Woods, Mike Cabe, Wayne Hanks, Sean Marron, Roy Kirschner, Donald Toulson, and John Strouse. Bruce was preceded in death by his wife of more than 39 years, Mrs. Lillian “Gidget” Self in February of 2004.He is survived by his life partner, Ms. Lola Clark, of Hephzibah; his children, Thomas Self Sr. of Hephzibah, and Teresa S. Wells, and her husband, Heyward “Sonny” Wells III, of Stapleton; his five grandchildren, Amber Dawn Self, Thomas Self Jr., Jamie Self, Reid Wells, and Emily Wells; several siblings; numerous close friends. Bruce was born in Blythe, Georgia on September 23, 1942.He was the son of the late Marion Reid and Kathryn Virginia Self.Bruce graduated from SGA High School in 1960.He served in the United States Air Force; he was stationed in Aviano, Italy.He was a graduate of Augusta Tech where he received an Associate Degree in Electromechanical Engineering; he developed the syllabus for this program for Augusta Tech. Bruce had worked with Olin Chemicals, Georgia Power Company at Plant Votgle, and at International Paper. Bruce was a member of Bath Presbyterian Church.He was a member of F&AM Richmond Lodge.Bruce enjoyed the outdoors; camping, fishing, sailing, and waterskiing with his family at Clarks Hill Lake.He was an accomplished pilot with both his commercial and IFR licenses; he loved to fly his Piper Archer II, N38990.For the last four years, he treasured the time he spent living with Lola on her farm near Hephzibah; he would often be found on his tractor making new roads, or pushing down pine trees. He called their home, “a little piece of heaven.”He also enjoyed his online chat friends; they knew him as USAFVET.Bruce loved his family and his friends.He will always be remembered as a happy man.
