Bernadette Schwartz, formerly of Dalton, PA passed early on Monday morning, August 29. She died peacefully at her home in Aiken, SC. Bern was born January 1, 1956 in Renfrew, Scotland to Theresa and Bernard O’Donnell. She was a nurse and midwife in Glasgow before moving to the US in 1990. There, she transferred her nursing skills to veterinary assistant and all-around horsewoman. An avid rider and animal lover all her life, Bernadette was a long-time member of Abington Hills Hunt in Dalton, PA and over the years cared for many horses and dogs of her own, and most recently spent her retired years caring for others. She also loved tending to her garden, where she surrounded herself with hummingbird feeders and flowers. She is preceded in death by both her parents and a sister, Mary, as well as several friends lost over the years. She dearly missed her good friend and former master of AHH, Jim. Perhaps the greatest loves of her life and the losses she took hardest were her beloved dog Ludwig and horse Ollie B. She is survived by a sister, Lucy Ross and husband Fraser; brother Michael O’Donnell and wife Dorothy; daughter Debbie McBride; and nieces Becky, Hannah & Jennifer Ross.A private family service will be held in Arran, Scotland in the spring.
