Arvis Kenneth Strickland, Jr.

Arvis Kenneth “Ken” Strickland, Jr., died peacefully at his home on April 28, 2020, while surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Strickland is survived by mother, Jewel D. Strickland, three children, Schylea Strickland of Augusta, Kevin Strickland (Astrid) of Brooks, Maine, and Alycia Abdulla (Skip) of Chapin, South Carolina, four grandchildren, John Hardy, Jamie Norton (Nicholas), Brittany Abdulla, and Cory Abdulla, all of Chapin. The delight of his heart was his precious great-granddaughter, Sloane Isabella Norton. He is also survived by one brother, Paul Strickland of Aliso Viejo, California, and two sisters, Judy Krueger (John) of Augusta, and Linda Adams of Tallahassee, Florida. He is preceded in death by his father, A. K. Strickland, and one brother, Michael Strickland. Ken was born in Bainbridge, Georgia, on January 18, 1946, where he resided until 1962 when the family moved to Gulfport, Mississippi. He graduated from Long Beach High School in 1964, and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps. While finishing his duty as a Marine Corps reservist in Augusta, Ken began working in residential construction and later ventured into commercial building. He was also known for his attention to detail and quality in refinishing antique furniture. In 1997 he moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where he owned and operated a store specializing in golf cart sales and repairs. He returned to Augusta seven years ago where he lived out his last days with his family. Ken had been a member of the Second Advent Christian Church of Climax, Georgia, since December 1968. A private celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 2, in the garden at his home. Memorial donations may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation to further research, or to the charity of your choice.
