Alice Mae Erkens, (78), passed away on August 18, 2024, in Grovetown, Georgia. Born on December 7, 1945, in Sanford, North Carolina, Alice was a member of The Shepherd's Church in Appling, Georgia. Alice was known for her love of spending time with friends and family, often found shopping at thrift stores with her sister or enjoying the natural beauty of beaches and mountains. A passionate gardener, she took great joy in planting and nurturing flowers during the spring and summer months. She leaves behind a loving family, including her daughters, Lora Harriott and Linda Woody;son, Roger (Buddy) Stephens; grandchildren, Jerry (Ashley), Kenneth (Donna), Kayla (Chaney), and Brock (Hope); and four great-grandchildren, Bentley, Brody, Allie, and Raylan. Alice is also survived by her sister, Peggy Best; sister-in-law, Lynette Collins; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roger (Shorty) Stephens; second husband, Edwin Erkens; parents, Sylvester and Sally Collins; brother, Vester Collins; and son-in-law, Jerry Harriott Sr. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to those who helped care for her during her illness, Georgia Hospice and Diane Searles. She looked forward to her visits from nurse Adrianna and CNA Shannon. She especially loved the time spent with Hospice Chaplain Jack reading bible scriptures and singing songs to her. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at 2:00 pm at her previous residence, 3228 Jacqueline Drive, Appling, GA. FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Augusta, Georgia, is assisting the family during this time. Alice's life and spirit will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
