Alfred William Scofield

Mr. Alfred W. Scofield of Augusta died on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at UPAC-Augusta Hills Nursing Center.He was 90 years old. The family received friends on Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard, Augusta, 706.798.8886.The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Committal services, with military honors, will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville, SC.Rev. Charles Rector and Rev. Billy Atkins will officiate. Mr. Scofield is survived by his sons, James Edward Scofield of Augusta, and John Arthur Scofield and his wife Mary Sue, of Lagrange, Georgia; his two grandchildren, Toni Marie Scofield and Christopher Allen Scofield; his great-grandson, Johnathan Taylor Ford; his step daughter, Janice Wren and her husband George, of Augusta; numerous step-grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Scofield was preceded in death by his wife, the late Charlotte Thea Scofield in 1988, and by his second wife, the late Wynell Scofield in 2000.He was also preceded in death by his parents, Guy Scofield and Sarah Wolfanger Scofield. Mr. Scofield was a longstanding member of Cliffwood Presbyterian Church where he was elder emeritus.He attended Fleming Baptist Church.He was a veteran of The United States Army.He served in WWII, and the Korean Conflict.He was a master paratrooper and retired as a Sergeant.
